Building good working relationships is very important to achieve success in your career. Good working relationships lead to good teamwork. This will be the main capital that will help you contribute more easily and be productive.

Now many types of work are changing rapidly. Some work from home so their knowledge and appreciation for how to communicate is also growing. So, it is important to maintain good relationships when taking on a new role in a team.

Initially, the office was a place where you spent eight hours and went home to gather with your family. Work is not the place to expect significant friendships or relationships. However, things have changed.

According to career coach, Jenn DeWall, there is a shift in the workforce that wants more meaningful relationships. The meaning obtained includes various things such as liking work to working in a solid team.

The essence of work is always about the people you work with. For this reason, it is important to know how to start a good collaborative relationship in the workplace.

1. Proactive and empathetic

When starting a relationship with teammates, each colleague will be interested in seeing your abilities as a team. Perhaps, you will accept this challenge in the form of assigned work from the start. However, you may also not be involved in the team at all.

When you get the opportunity, offer your knowledge and experience in completing group assignments. After that, learn how to help your coworkers with their work. Take time to discuss how to support and better understand how to work together in teams.

Make sure not to take on work that you are not comfortable handling. However, try to always help every chance you get.

2. Make time for everyone

When on a team, some people tend to focus their time and effort on impressing stakeholders in more senior positions. However, you should not neglect junior colleagues and tasks that may not be as important.

The work done is always important for a person. So, don't underestimate what other people are doing, especially if you can help. In a new role, you may have pressure to impress everyone so juggling your time may be difficult. However, remember that reputation occurs at all levels, not just at the top.

Establish yourself as a reliable, helpful and respectful team member among junior colleagues. You can also continue to help build good professional relationships with your boss and coworkers.

3. Get the job done and respond

Someone's failure to fulfill a promise or missing a deadline is not a good thing. This can quickly damage your reputation. This can arise due to trivial issues such as not responding to emails.

If you feel like you're handling something beyond your capacity or lack time to respond to work, it's important to be open and honest about it. This is better to handle together than not responding without explanation.

4. Show yourself in discussions

Professional relationships are also built on respect. This usually appears when you express your opinion. Other people will judge your competence through the way you speak and the values ​​you convey when involved in discussions.

Even if you are in a discussion via an online meeting, show your presence by providing a response. Your self-involvement shows that you are valuable and worthy of consideration on a team. Give your opinion, support others' opinions, be proactive and take part in the decision-making process.

5. Be positive

An important part of building healthy relationships is maintaining a positive attitude towards coworkers. Office politics and gossip will almost always occur and arise within a team. However, it is important for you to remain neutral and open.

Don't risk belittling someone or joining in on the joke at someone else's expense. This will actually damage your reputation and image. Before you know it, conversations may have arisen that damage your reputation.

Hard work, honesty and a positive professional attitude are traits that will benefit you in a long-term career. This will also help you to make an impact when taking on a new role. By respecting your colleagues, you can prove the value of your experience and expertise.

Positioning yourself as someone who respects other people's positions can maintain good professional relationships. Not only does it appear as an initial impression, you can continue to work professionally, avoid conflict, and be respected for a long period of time.
