Job training or training is a term that is quite familiar in the professional world. Job training is usually held by a company to improve the quality and work skills of its employees.

Not only to improve work quality and skills, job training is also held to see if employees still have a work ethic to hone themselves. If it still exists, job training is something that is needed both for employees and companies.

What is Job Training?

According to the website of the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemnaker), job training is a whole activity to provide, obtain, improve, and develop work competence, productivity, discipline, attitude and work ethic at a certain skill and expertise level in accordance with the level and qualifications of the position or job.

In simple terms, job training is a process of teaching knowledge and developing work skills (vocational) and attitudes so that employees become more skilled and able to carry out their responsibilities better according to standards.

Objective of Job Training

What is the purpose of job training? It turns out that there are many objectives of job training. Starting from performance improvement, process towards permanent employees, introduction of new technology, helping to solve operational problems, to preparation for promotions. Check out the following job training objectives in more detail!

1. Performance Improvement

The first objective of job training is performance improvement. That is, job training is held to increase and improve the performance of employees who are declining. Because, if left unchecked it could affect the company. Not only affects profits but also the work cycle.

2. Process Towards Full-time Employee

Many companies may have got new employees who did not meet expectations. Therefore, to overcome it is to do job training.

Job training is held to provide knowledge and skills improvement for employees. In addition, they are guaranteed that they will become permanent employees.

3. Introduction to New Technology

In this era of increasingly rapid technology, companies must adapt quickly. For example for food restaurants, they must not only be able to serve customers face to face but also be able to serve consumers through online applications.

Therefore, this can be material in job training. The introduction of new technology absolutely must be carried out by companies to adapt to the digital era as it is now.

4. Solve Operational Problems

In company management, ideally employees should be involved with many things. For example, the problem of company performance. However, employee involvement in problem solving is sometimes superficial. That is, there is but can not give an opinion. Therefore, job training can be a way to increase competence, especially skills in expressing opinions. 

5. Preparation for Employee Promotion

The final objective of job training is to prepare employees for promotion to a better position. So, this is what can be called preparation as well as an opportunity to build a better business. 

Job Training Program

After understanding the meaning and purpose of job training, now we need to understand what programs are in job training. The following are some types or programs that are usually in job training.

1. Skills Training

This job training program is often found in various organizations. Skills training is also an absolute must for every employee. As the name implies, this job training program aims to improve employee skills. 

2. Retraining

Next is the retraining program. Retraining is training that is needed by the company because of the demands of repetitive work. For example, today's software system requirements are more often applied to companies than to hardware. Therefore, the recommended training is getting to know the software system.

3. Cross Functional Training

Cross functional training is job training that involves employees to carry out work activities in fields other than their assigned jobs. For example, an employee can do skill A, but when skill B is needed, the employee must be ready. Therefore, this training is carried out to improve the ability so that these employees can have B skills.

4. Team Training

An example of this job training is training consisting of a group of individuals where they have to complete a job together for a common goal in the team.

5. Creativity Training

Lastly, there is creativity training. This job training is usually more liberating for employees to be creative, then given the opportunity to channel ideas. However, it must be in accordance with the vision and mission of the company.
