Unplanned events and various other failures may occur in every process. Goods that do not reach their destination according to plan, team members experiencing problems or illness, difficulty finding raw materials, or communication errors.

There are many events that can be defined as chaotic situations. So, how does a businessman or part of a team behave when a chaotic situation occurs that is out of control?

Recognizing Uncontrollable Situations

In the book entitled "The Chaos Imperative: How Chance and Disruption Increase Innovation, Effectiveness, and Success", Ori Brafman reveals that chaotic situations are a reality that must be accepted by every entrepreneur and business actor.

Generally, every businessman tries to make everything structured and in accordance with existing regulations. This is because humans feel comfortable when they are in a safe and predictable situation.

This situation makes people feel like they have the power to control everything. However, difficult situations require business people to continue to innovate and sometimes innovation cannot always be accepted directly by society.

Before the Covid-19 pandemic, no one thought that the world would change drastically overnight. The pandemic has changed all business activities in the world. Plus various changes in situations and losses that naturally arise due to previously unimaginable conditions.

However, this condition does not necessarily break everyone's hopes. Various creative ideas have emerged and many businesses have made adjustments to survive this pandemic situation. At that time, proven teams will emerge when they can survive in a chaotic situation that does not provide a sense of security.

How to Handle Chaotic Situations in a Team

The theory of chaos says that a chaotic situation that is out of control will make someone understand everything. The impact of a small thing that may be underestimated, turns out to have a very significant impact on the environment. This allows anyone to see from a different perspective and also be more aware of every possibility that will happen.

A chaotic situation is neither always bad nor always good. In the world of work, chaotic situations need to be interpreted as opportunities for everyone to learn and develop. As a leader, the following are things you can do when you are in a chaotic situation.

Actively encourage change

Every feeling of insecurity can be controlled by building work management that is flexible to change. To do this, you can start by making a list of things that might happen, budget plans, and time changes in the brainstorming process with the team.

The benefit is that you can train your ability to think logically but remain creative when facing various situations that may arise. A bold and innovative project manager will encourage his team to dare to change and face discomfort gracefully.

Chaotic situations can create a better project climate

Always being in a safe situation will make a person become a rigid person who relies on logic, rules and bureaucracy. There is no opportunity to hone skills when facing different situations or pressure.

An intelligent project leader will enjoy dealing with and introducing his subordinates to chaotic and confusing situations. Because, in times like these, golden opportunities will arise that can train resilience and also creative thinking processes so that we can get through difficult times well.

Thus, a company does not need to worry when facing a chaotic situation. Stay calm and use logic to move from your comfort zone and start looking for solutions. This can provide an impetus that forces a business to develop better and faster.
