How to Motivate a Creative Team for Team Leaders

14-June-2023

In the whole workplace motivation is an important part. As a leader you must constantly try to encourage team members to generate innovative ideas, be able to solve problems, and achieve success.

However, in practice many business routines can suppress creative enthusiasm and dull motivation. Because of this, the team feels burdened, bored and stressed. When you see this, as a leader you must not remain silent.

How to Motivate a Creative Team for Leaders

When a team is not motivated, it is less likely that they will achieve their potential. To achieve maximum results, you have to think of ways to keep motivating a team, especially creative teams who need inspiration to work.

This is very important because people who are motivated will have enthusiasm and a positive outlook. To keep your team motivated and inspired to do their job, here are things you can do:

1. Get your creative team organized

Complex work processes and administrative tasks are not only time consuming, but also draining and motivational. Whether we realize it or not, this is a valuable company asset.

Therefore, maybe you and your team need to invest in software that provides a variety of innovative features and solutions that can minimize work processes. This way, your team can focus on doing what they do best.

2. Balance between pressure and freedom

There is a saying that, too much stress and too much time constraints can kill creativity. It is undeniable that no one can predict the rotation or dynamics of work, especially when working in a creative field.

Therefore, you must ensure a realistic deadline. This is done to give time to find innovative ideas, brainstorm, and cooperate with each other. To achieve this balance, know your team's capabilities and limitations.

3. Make room for multiple perspectives

A team must have diverse skills, experiences, and ways of thinking. With this diversity, it is hoped that the team can appreciate the differences, thereby motivating creative employees to be more involved in their work.

Being able to share different perspectives honestly and openly is also important for encouraging team creativity. Here brainstorming becomes the most common way to generate various perspectives and approaches to a problem.

However, this method is not always effective for generating and developing ideas, as some members may be more shy than others. Instead, you might consider doing a brain writing session.

Than any other verbal system, this written brainstorming exercise has been shown to generate more ideas. This is because teams are often more comfortable sharing ideas on paper or via email.

4. Be a humble leader

Current research shows that it is not charismatic and self-assured leaders who are able to inspire team members. However, it is leaders with humility who are more respected nowadays.

By being open about obstacles, mistakes, and acknowledging the strengths of the team, these qualities of managers can increase feelings of safety, and psychological. After these feelings are fulfilled, in the future creativity will also be fulfilled.

Therefore, consider breaking away from the traditional leadership approach. Focus on organizational roles by facilitating teamwork and allow them to explore leading themselves.

5. Don't let go

Being a humble leader doesn't mean you shouldn't interfere. When the team stagnates, that's when you have to step in. If your team seems unable to correct itself, it's time to use your skills and experience as a manager.

6. Recognize and acknowledge team accomplishments

Most creative teams are more motivated when they work well and produce high-quality work. Take the time to pay close attention to the team's work. When team members do something great, compliment their skills or innovative ideas. Not only can this motivate, recognizing one another's strengths also helps set an example in encouraging creativity and collaboration.

7. Encourage taking risks

Support the team to do new things. To reduce boredom, learn new things, stimulate the mind, and creativity requires a challenge. When your team takes a risky decision, it's here that you have to take the time to help each team member. This is done to ensure that they continue to have a safe environment.

8. Take an individualistic approach

Every individual's work habits are different. To be able to focus, there are people who are more productive if they work in a quiet and calm place, such as home. However, there are also those who might be more inspired if they interact with colleagues in the office.

The difference in how to work may occur in your team. Make sure that you know and understand the ways of each team member. Give the team an understanding that you are open to all work methods. However, team members need to keep in mind their individual jobs and responsibilities.

No one knows the abilities and limitations of the team than you as a leader or team leader. While time-consuming, putting in the effort to motivate the team will lead to superior team productivity and operations.
