Things that Need to Be Prepared After Receiving a New Job Offer

Accepting a job offer can be a very exciting time. Especially if you've spent weeks or months transitioning to a new career level. You may be ready to start a new activity and develop your potential even better.

However, you may also be confused because you don't understand the things that need to be prepared to change jobs. Changing jobs can refer to several contexts, either moving branches, moving divisions, or maybe moving workplaces. However, you still need to observe the protocol of leaving the current position with a good transition.

Preparation for Receiving New Job Offers

Once you've received word that you're about to take on a new job, you need to stay focused and prepare yourself. There are many things that must be well prepared in the current workplace and in a new workplace. Although it varies for each company, at least here are the things that must be done after receiving a job offer.

1. Notify the manager

If you are already employed, let your manager know that you have received another job offer. You should be the first to tell the manager that you are leaving. Not other people. Apart from giving the impression of respect, and appreciating this is done so he can get ready to look for new team members. Give the date you started working at the new company and if anything is needed before you move.

2. Notify other companies

If you're not just applying at one company, let them know you've received offers from other companies. This is done so that the relevant parties do not process the next recruitment. You will give the recruiter time to evaluate other potential candidates. You can notify them via a short email stating that you have received an offer at another company.

3. Build networking

Even if you are transitioning a career move, it is still a good idea to maintain good relations with your former managers and former co-workers. So that communication doesn't break up, make sure you've connected with them on LinkedIn. Because it is possible that you will work with them again later.

After officially moving, change the title and company name on your LinkedIn profile. You can do this after at least a week of moving. However, if you're in a position that relies heavily on networking, such as sales, try switching it up on day one.

4. Prepare the handover position

When you move jobs, it's only natural that you help prepare for the transition of employee transfers. That is, you train your replacement or write detailed job instructions for the new employee later. Prepare all files and paper documents properly.

Make sure your future successor is not flustered and is ready to replace you. This is also done so that you are no longer contacted about your previous job, so you can focus on your job at the new company later.

5. Start communicating with the new manager

When you get a job offer, it means you already have a new manager. However, of course you don't know the new manager well. Therefore, it's a good idea to start communicating with the new manager before you start work.

Don't be shy about starting first. Ask about things you need to prepare to start work later. Are there any documents that need to be filled out? Where and when should you report? And will there be an orientation period?

If you don't know how to get started, you can thank them for the offer and let them know you're excited to get started. This is a great opportunity to remind yourself of the start date and show enthusiasm. Saying thank you and asking questions will help you to start building a relationship with the new manager later.

6. Move to a new place of work

There are many things to do after receiving a job offer. Don't resign suddenly. Find out when you start work and give notice to the employer at least one month before leaving.
